Twenty years ago eagles were seldom spotted in Alabama. Today eagle sightings are more common as migratory eagles make their winter homes in Alabama. The birds generally arrive in late November in search of warmer weather and stay until early March. Then they return north in the spring. Bald eagles and golden eagles are found in Alabama. Since 1984 the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has made a conscious effort to restore the state bald eagle population. Wildlife biologists have used a process called acking?to reintroduce the birds. When young eagles are forced to take their first flights from an area,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they become imprinted on the area and will return there later to nest. Dozens of these migratory bald eagles make Mulberry Outlet northern Alabama their temporary home each winter. Many can be spotted along the Tennessee River and the shores of Lake Guntersville. There are a number of good eagle viewing sites in northern Alabama. The state park holds Eagle Awareness Weekends in January and February with informative speakers and guided field trips to nesting sites. In northwest Alabama eagles are often seen near Wilson Dam on the Tennessee River and around the town of Waterloo.
