Well, our recently in Bangkok ended poorly, and our final morning began very, really well. This afternoon my family and i are advancing towards maui of Koh Chang for a few weeks of relaxation along with a small number of extremely short era of work (all being well). Prior to leaving we decided they would setting off out partying environmentally friendly . time with many friends for your favorite bar, Cheap Charlie's on Sukhumvit.
The evening took an agonizing turn when my cousin decided to go clubbing with friends with the seedier districts of this city and, for being an old fuddy duddy, I decided to stay for the bar that has an Australian expat. My lady left her handbag when camping, containing her Canon 600D, an extra Canon LP-E8 battery in addition to an offering of SD cards. Total value: around $1,000.
And got drunk and left it with the bar.
[link widoczny dla zalogowanych] A single night of panic puctuated without requiring enough sleep led me to call the bar every 10-20 minutes today until someone finally found. The bag possibly there is! Thank the beneficial Lord. Presumably the contents are intact, too. The girl on the telephone smiled and told me the bag contained a camera, and yes it seems unlikely if you have a thief would leave the camera but take a number of SD cards along with Canon LP-E8.
Here's however, the problem. We leave for Koh Chang inside a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] couple of hours and we'll collect the bag to be able [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to riding on the bus station, but the batteries haven't been charged since we spent four hours walking the metropolis shooting stock photography yesterday afternoon. Actually, i know the chief battery is entirely dead, although i won't know how much juice the spare has until it's in its final stages.
This may not be a problem, though the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] 12 hour bus ride to Koh Chang takes us through an array of beautiful countryside in Thailand, for currently shooting contributions for any coffee table book about life by its side belonging to the road (an odd concept, I recognize, nevertheless it's looking very good up to date). This ride is the perfect chance catch a glimpse of [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] traditional Thai life in the window, and it could be lost because of a flat damned battery.
This, though, is the place numerous expertise in cameras takes over. Any photographer witnesses that certain tricks he could employ to squeeze the third [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] drops of juice from a dying battery, and so on this 12 hour trip [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] I'm going to use every 4g iphone individuals to ensure I get at least one or two good shots. Your is usually to turn your feature-rich, power hungry digital [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] straight into a sleek, efficient manual camera. Here's the way do this...
No Auto Focus
Auto-focus and image stabilization are wonderful benefits of contemporary cameras, but the motors within the lenses can burn with a battery faster than you are able to blink. Manual focus is essential to conserving battery.
No LCD
Canon's Live View is one of the best feature during the 600D (especially since my eyesight isn't exactly what was). I usually frame and focus my shots because of the LCD screen, however it's by far and away very large power drain using a camera battery. It's going to take a hell from a massive amount juice to power the screen, though the viewfinder draws no power in anyway.
No Preview
Even [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] when you shoot through the viewfinder the 600D is about as to automatically flash each shot on the LCD only a few seconds. In all probability it doesn't draw a great deal of power, but every little helps. We are switching preview off.
Make certain with the Shot
After many years of camcorder use photographers have fallen into your practice of pressing the shutter release halfway before shooting. Completing this task awakens many dormant processes, draining power if you this occupation a graphic. Once you've framed and focused your shot, just press the shutter release all the way up.
Shut it Down
At this moment [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] my 600D is to turn off after two minutes of inactivity, but it doesn't go far enough. Even on standby your camera draws power. It's called 'vampire drain', and also your TV, DVD player, PC and other things that you on standby does identical things. When not shooting, switch the camera completely [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] off.
These techniques probably won't sufficient to stretch a dying Canon LP-E8 with a 12 hour trip, however a bit [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] of care and much much more luck I ought to be capable to shoot one or two contributions for ones book before that blinking red warning light finally starts. Wish me luck!
