| First quarter growth in Canada fastest in six quarters

Export volumes rose 1.5 percent in the period.Consumer spending rose 0.2 percent in the quarter, "sustained by higher spending on services," StatsCan said.Business investment in residential housing fell 1.2 percent, as the housing market "showed continued weakness," the agency said.Business investments in plants and equipment, termed capital goods, rose 0.2 percent after a 1.3 percent gain in the fourth quarter of 2012. |
