USA TODAY - Towards the top of small retailers' holiday wish lists: shoppers who still have enough energy - and cash - to look small the day after Black Friday.

The 2010 Small company Saturday, where consumers are asked to support their local smaller businesses two days after Thanksgiving, would be the biggest one yet, says Small Business Administrator Karen Mills.

Smaller businesses can't usually compete with big-box stores' big sales on Black Friday, a lot of hope to use Small company Saturday to obtain a piece of the action throughout the biggest shopping weekend of the year.

Only 24% state that day is Black Friday.
Ross Steinman, psychology professor at Widener University, says the popularity of Small Business Saturday is a revolt against big-box stores from consumers who are willing to pay extra and see the money go to their communities.
"There's a lot negative attention recently on Black Friday and also the rampant consumerism that's associated with it,[url=http://parajumpersoutletjackets.webmium.com/][b]parajumpers outlet jackets[/b][/url]," he admits that. "Small Business Saturday is a reaction to that."
Jim Brownell, VP of retail solutions for GT Nexus, says that Small Business Saturday is a great chance of retailers because you will see "a lot of feet on the street," but it won't work unless they get the word out about promotions.
"It's unfortunately likely to require some sort of service promotion or product promotion to attract people in to the stores," Brownell says. "You can't relax and hope that the SBA with all their advertising is really going to be the ones which will bring everybody in."
