Norwich City boss Chris Hughton says James Vaughan is going nowhere
Terriers' counterpart Simon Grayson raised the prospect of a permanent deal for Vaughan after the ex-Evertonian plundered his second goal in five appearances in the impressive midweek 3-1 win at Blackpool,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
Hughton insists he sanctioned a season-long move to give Vaughan the chance to re-ignite an injury-hit Norwich career - not to put the 24-year-old in the shop window,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
"At this moment in time that is just hypothetical,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Hughton. "He has played five games for them and I think probably any sort of judgement,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], by anybody,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], would have to come after a longer period of time. If he has made that comment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then it means of course that he is happy with him and if he is then he is playing well. Our objective was to send him on loan to get the games he needs and if he does that it allows him to improve as a player. That was our objective.
"At this moment we are not thinking about anything like a sale. We just want to get him through this period of time and then evaluate things again after this loan period has finished,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. What we hope is that when it does come to a finish people are still talking about him as they are at the minute - but the most important people who have to speak about him is of course ourselves,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]."
Vaughan's goalscoring form is in stark contrast to Norwich's own early season Premier League struggles in front of goal,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but Hughton is adamant a loan move lower down the tree was the right call for both parties.
"I can understand people saying that. He is our player and I can understand the thinking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but the reason why he dropped down to Championship level was to get the games," said Hughton,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who also confirmed the Canaries do not have a recall option as part of Vaughan's loan switch to West Yorkshire. "We hope it is a good season for him and that he plays a lot of games, scores goals and comes through a consistent period and then we have a better player.
"I am absolutely delighted to see him scoring goals. He started one game here last season and he missed a big chunk of the season through injury. So for that reason when we thought about the possibilities of him going out on loan to the Championship it was for that very reason. For him to get games,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to go through a longer period of playing games and hopefully come back to us as a better player for it."
Grayson revealed after his side's Championship win at the Tangerines on Monday he would consider a potential permanent New Year move for Vaughan.
"Signing James in January is a possibility,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said. "We've got him on loan until the end of the season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so that is an option. I've got a chairman who is willing to back me."
Glad to read a City comments page not full of overly negative responses. Norwich scored enough goals with the same forwards last season. Still concerned about the lack of goals or a cutting edge though. Unlike last season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I do not feel other teams will score so heavily against us. Vaughan is unproven in the Premier League as indeed is Jordan Rhodes. Will James Vaughan want to commit to us after his loan ends? As for Rhodes a move a short distance across the Pennines to relegated Blackburn is a good move for him. Not sure Rhodes would want to come down here.
