Newcomer Pattinson storms to victory at Greenlands show,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Eleven-year-old Kate Pattinson, a relatively new BSPS member,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], took the Mini Championship on Tilly. The pair have enjoyed success at Trailblazer level, and this win now takes them on to the Winter Champs at Arena UK in April.
Connor Murtagh took the reserve Mini Championship with Gryngallt Panache. Connor recently won the BSPS WHP scholarship scheme which gives him training,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so he been working hard with his coach Susie Gibson and it clearly paying off. He now hopes to contest Royal International classes this year.
The next section Champion went to Glen Allen on Millpond Look so Cheeky with Reserve going to Millie Holder. Christine Richardson and Amy Wybergh fought off strong competition in the horse classes to take Champion and Reserve respectively. Both riders have come up through the pony ranks and have had great results from the Horse of the Year show in the past, so are an inspiration as to what can be achieved with hard work and dedication.

The good times continue to roll for popular local couple Jon Fletcher and Gail Smith - at Richmond, Jon won the 1.15 and came second in the 1.10 on Chemo and came third in the 1.20 on Vote,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], while Gail came third in the 1.15 with Wenge and jumped well in the 1.20 to go double clear.
In carriage driving,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Amanda Nisbet and Firefly won the overall Championship in the Open Pony Class at the recent indoor show at Greenlands, just beating Ollie Dernie who won the overall dressage.
The Novice Pony section was won by Peter Carter with Josh Hepple in second. Alicia Fraser once again proved unbeatable in the Junior class with Amanda spotty pony Munchkins.
Brian Cairns won the Open Horse with John Nisbet second.
Spectators were also treated to an entertaining variety of multiples, including pair,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], tandem and a unicorn. Amanda won the class with her pair of Dartmoor Hill ponies.
Pony club members had to use all of their horse sense in the recent Area 2 Quiz competition. Fourteen teams took part and the questions covered various equine and equestrian topics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], including the Olympics and Para Olympics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], map reading,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], identifying tack, shoes, feed, poisonous plants and bits, tying a stock and a tie and a picture round.
The CFHS blue team triumphantly pulled an extra point out of the bag after getting into a tie-break for second place with the Cumberland Foxhound Foxes. Meanwhile the CFHS reds came equal ninth with the CF Hounds,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
In racing, there was a well-deserved accolade for Willie Cowe, the head lad at James Ewart yard near Lockerbie. He won the to Racing title at the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards. This highly competitive section is for long-serving members of staff who have been employed for at least ten years in the industry.
Sadly Willie was unable to attend the glittering awards ceremony in London as he currently in hospital,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but was interviewed by the judges in a conference call from his bed!
Details have now been finalised for the opening of the new indoor arena at Rookin House Equestrian Centre.
An official launch event will be held on the evening of Monday, April 23 from 6pm onwards,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and everyone will be made welcome. Star guest Ruth Edge will be judging the centre competition to find a Star competition is for riders aged 18 years or under. Entrants must be able to jump a small (2ft) course of fences and be confident enough to speak in front of an audience. If you fit the bill and would like to enter, write to the centre explaining in 300 words or less why you deserve the chance to ride in front of Ruth Edge.
Riders now have the chance to win a bit of cash at Greenlands evening unaffiliated shows which run on wednesdays for horses (including the ex-racers points series) and fridays for ponies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. There will be one prize for every five entries.
